**I received an eARC of this book from the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review**I have read several books by Ms. Hiestand and I have enjoyed her writing style. But this book was not what I have become accustomed to from this author. The premise of the story was great, but the execution was sorely lacking. I am having a very hard time writing this review, because the story did not flow well and was very disjointed - it makes it hard for me to accurately summarize the plot, as it is jumbled in my mind.
Ewan Hales is the secretary at the Redcake's London tearoom. He is very good at his job and well respected. At the very beginning of the book he finds out that he is the heir to an earldom. His father was estranged from his family, so Ewan never knew. He meets the current earl and is told that he must quit his job and come learn about the family business.
Matilda is the middle Redcake sister. She has had a child out of wedlock and is currently living in Bristol and managing the cake factory. She comes to London to meet with the Lord Judah about a problem, only to find that Judah is out of town and Ewan is filling in. This is the first mystery in the book. The factory cakes are not up to Redcake's standards and Matilda and Ewan need to figure out why. They trace the problem to the flour and each agree to look into the problem and touch base later. Matilda is surprised by Ewan's attitude towards her, she feels he is treating her as an equal, which she thinks is odd, as she thinks she is his superior, both socially and in business.
From here the book just nosedives in my opinion - so many things happen and seem totally unbelievable to me. Matilda and Ewan share a kiss, her son gets kidnapped, she rushes back to Bristol with Ewan in tow, she is hysterical, they have sex (which was out of the blue), he goes back to London and quits his job and goes to work for the earl - who happens to own the flour factory that supplies Redcakes - Matilda goes to see her son's father, who she thinks may have taken her son - finds him on his deathbed and agrees to marry him (?!?), goes back to Bristol to look for her son, Ewan comes back, he is fired by the earl because he said he was going to marry Matilda, Matilda is abducted while paying the ransom for her son, she is returned to her family without her son and is hysterical again, so her sister in law drugs her, Ewan shows up and takes charge. Matilda agrees to marry him, but needs to break with her son's father. They go back to London, she sees Mr. Bliven, he dies, she goes back to Ewan, they have sex again, she returns to Bristol, but comes back to London for Bliven's funeral. After the funeral, she sees two men that she believes are involved with her son's kidnapping, her brother Gawain and Ewan follow them and get their names. They all go back to Bristol, they find her son. Ewan goes back to London and mends fences with the earl, makes a connection between the earl and Matilda's problems, gets fired again, Matilda comes back to London, they have sex - again, they make plans to marry, the end.
Confused? Yeah, so am I.
This book was just a hot mess, there is no flow to this book, it is just a bunch of jumbled scenes thrown together. There is no character development, no insight into Matilda and Ewan's feelings, I have no idea when they fell in love. The love scenes felt like random encounters, and I was really disgusted that she is carrying on an affair while her son is missing and is willing to risk getting pregnant again.
Bottom-line - I didn't like this book and I wouldn't recommend this book. As I stated at the beginning of this rambling review, I have read and enjoyed other books by this author, so I will probably read the next book in the series.

Wedding Matilda Redcakes Book 6 edition by Heather Hiestand Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
Brilliant...as good as previous books by this writer...and it gives insight into individuals previously not known. Loved it.
There is poor editing. It goes from one scene to the next without any spacing, just the next sentence. It is a cute story and a nice addition to the series.
I loved this story. I was so happy to see Matilda able to rebuild her life after falling in a previous book in the series. I love this series as it empowers the women in this family, which was uncommon during this era.
Several reviewers have said that this book could be read as a stand-alone, and I guess it could be, but you would miss a LOT of backstory. Both Ewan Hales and Matilda Redcake appear in previous stories in this series. Matilda was spoiled, shallow, and detested the fact that her family was 'in trade'. She was knocked off her high horse early in the series - seduced, abandoned, and pregnant. Fast forward to this book. Her son is two years old and Matilda is the manager of the Redcake factories. Ewan was a bit shifty in earlier books - obsequious to his employers and notorious for his amorous relationships with the female employees at Redcakes. Fast forward to this book and Ewan is still employed at Redcakes, but has just found out that he is the heir to the Earl of Fitzwalter. Ewan has matured a lot, and is a much better man in this book, steady and reliable. The story starts off with suspicions of sabotage and escalates to the kidnapping of Matilda's son. Convoluted plots within plots ensue, with multiple villains, side stories, characters from previous books- a little much, really. Ewan and Matilda start falling in love during all of this- she desperately wants Ewan's help and emotional support, but her family keeps trying to shut him out. This just didn't ring true to me- a beloved two year old child has been kidnapped. You would take any help you could get! I also had some issues with the ending ***Spoiler*** None of the aristocratic villains suffered any real consequences for their evil deeds! They all walked away. Of course, all of the "lower level" crooks were punished. I understand that it is probably a realistic scenario, but I don't have to like it! Nothing beats a good old fashioned, getting what's coming to you ending, but alas! It ended not with a bang, but with a whimper. Overall, I enjoyed this book, as I have enjoyed all of the Redcakes books. This was just not my favorite one, however, I am impressed that the author
could make me like two characters that I found so unlikable in previous books. I received an ARC from Netgally.
